NICE recently announced the
winners of the 2016 PSAPs’ Finest Awards. PSAPs’ Finest is an annual awards program where public safety professionals can nominate their peers for awards in four categories: Director, Line Supervisor, Technician, and (new for 2016) PSAP of the Year.
While sponsored by NICE, PSAPs’ Finest, which is now going on its eleventh year, is truly an industry award program. Any individual from any PSAP can be nominated, and nominees are judged by a panel of 911 professionals who graciously volunteer their time to review and score each nomination.
As noted above, this year, for the first time ever, a new category was launched for PSAP of the Year. Nominations were received from every corner of the U.S. and Canada, and after a thorough review, the judges selected the
Winnipeg Police Service (Division 36) for the honor.
The Winnipeg Police Service PSAP serves the City of Winnipeg, has 92 front line employees 10 administrative staff, and covers a population of 700,000 + citizens. In 2015 the Winnipeg Police Service 911 center handled a total of 255,139 911 calls and 188,889 non-emergency calls, as well as providing dispatch services for the Winnipeg Police Service.
