| NICE MARKS 20TH ANNIVERSARY |
 |
The year was 1986. Microsoft had just released its first retail version of Windows. The United Kingdom and France were unveiling plans to build a massive undersea tunnel (the "Chunnel") that would connect the UK to mainland Europe. The Mir space station and Space Shuttle Challenger both catapulted into space, one meeting inevitable disaster. The world was on the cusp of numerous technological advances: digital cell phones, the world-wide web, genetic engineering, high speed processors. Half-way across the world, the beginnings of a then little known company were also in the making. Founded by 7 Israeli ex-army buddies, Neptune Intelligence Computer Engineering was formed. It would be the foundation for what has come to be known as NICE Systems today.
NICE then and now...
In the two decades since its modest beginnings, much has changed at NICE. From only a dozen or so staff twenty years ago, NICE has grown to a global company with more than 1,400 employees from all corners of the world - and the revenues and market capitalization to match (more than $311 million and $1 billion, respectively in 2005).
Over the years NICE's products have evolved as well. NICE's initial business foray was primarily in surveillance products for the military sector. But today, NICE's advanced solutions for capturing and analyzing interactions cover the full spectrum - telephony, VoIP, radio, video and more - helping organizations of all types extract hidden insight from interactions, in turn enabling them to make better decisions, improve productivity, reduce risk, and enhance the public safety and security of the communities they serve.
A company that began its journey 20 years ago with a handful of customers, today NICE counts more than 23,000 organizations among its customers - including the world's largest police departments and public safety agencies, the top 10 banks and more than 75% of the Fortune 100 companies.
Partnerships have also fueled our success. In the 20 years since its founding, NICE has signed on distributors in more than 100 countries and forged strategic relationships and agreements with market-leading companies in the public safety sector such as Motorola and Plant Equipment.
While much has changed at NICE over the past twenty years, the core vision of NICE's original founders - that people are critical to our company's longevity and success - remains a guiding principle for NICE as it embarks on its next decades in business. "It is the hard work, inventiveness, ingenuity, and energy of the people who work at NICE that are key to our company's success, both in the past and for the future," affirms NICE CEO Haim Shani.
