In a recent InformationWeek article, noted analyst company Frost & Sullivan predicts double-digit growth in the market for intelligent video surveillance software, citing video surveillance as a key weapon in the fight against terrorism. In fact, when terrorists bombed the London Subway in July of this past summer, it was the surveillance video that cracked the case, helping Scotland Yard "ID" the bombers in a matter of days. Those now famous still images of four men entering King's Cross Station were captured on video surveillance devices developed by a Swiss company, FAST Video Security AG. Now, NICE Systems is joining forces with FAST Video to enhance its digital video offering with a full suite of smart IP-based solutions. NICE has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Swiss-based company. The transaction, which will also expand NICE's reach in Europe and the APAC region, is expected to close in early 2006. In separate but related news, NICE also recently announced a strategic supply relationship with Honeywell International. A $26 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, Honeywell is well-known in the integrated security solutions arena. The strategic supply relationship will enable both companies to capitalize on anticipated growth opportunities from the acquisition of FAST Video. Now, Honeywell will be able to offer a full suite of smart IP-based digital video and content analytics solutions, derived from the combined portfolio of NICE and FAST solutions. The combined capabilities will cover the entire digital video spectrum, including video transmission/networking, recording, management, real-time detection, and post recording analysis. "Honeywell has maintained a solid relationship with FAST for a number of years," said John Lorenty, president, Honeywell Systems Group. "We are delighted by this opportunity to offer an expanded suite of solutions through our work with NICE."
