HARRIS COUNTY PICKS NICE TO ENSURE FLAWLESS OPERATION OF TRUNKED RADIO NETWORK
NICE will be providing Houston, TX-based Harris County with an end-to-end solution for capturing and analyzing trunked radio communications. Harris County is the third largest county in the United States. The County's Regional Radio Center operates a large, multi-site trunked radio network which it shares, through interlocal agreements, with hundreds of local law enforcement, government and other user organizations spanning 13 neighboring counties within a 12,500 square mile area. As the principal owner and operator of this massive radio network, Harris County is responsible for its reliable operation.

When fully installed, NICE's high-density solution will capture over 230,000 radio interactions per day from 27 tower sites supporting 1,200 plus talkgroups and 20,000 radios on the network. The voice communications and associated trunked radio data from the County's Motorola SmartZoneTM system (such as radio and talkgroup IDs) will be centrally archived, managed and analyzed to ensure flawless operation of the radio network.

Reliable capture of radio interactions is essential for search, replay and reconstruction of communications for first responders and other county agencies. Capitalizing on its experience with other major metropolitan areas and large radio systems, NICE designed a completely redundant solution, to ensure Harris County's radio interactions will always be available for analysis. Trunked radio interactions will be captured from Motorola's SmartZoneTM controller as well as from each of the 27 tower sites for fail-safe operation.

"With so many organizations, including first responders, relying on our radio network, we wanted to ensure its reliability 24/7," said Steven Jennings, chief information officer for the Harris County Information Technology Center. "The NICE solution is going to help us be proactive in detecting, diagnosing and addressing any performance issues that could impact the smooth operation of our radio system."

The NICE solution is all fully integrated, tested and certified for interoperability with the Motorola SmartZoneTM trunked radio platform. "With NICE, Harris County can be confident that it will be well equipped to provide the highest levels of quality service to its first responders and other county agencies, even as its user base needs grow and evolve," said Chris Wooten, vice president of NICE Systems' Public Safety Division. "We are honored that Harris County has entrusted NICE to be a part of its mission critical operation."

Harris County is the third largest county in the United States with a population of over three million people. Utilizing SmartZoneTM technology, the Harris County Regional Radio Center provides and manages mobile and portable radio communications for Harris County Departments and other outside agencies with whom it has interlocal agreements.
